Chapter 517: I Feel Awful
Chapter 517: I Feel Awful
Yu Xia felt quite awkward. Then she boldly quoted a playboy line: "At least I gave you inspiration to act out crying scenes, isn’t it great that all your inspiration comes from me? It shows we’re perfectly matched soulmates."
Xie Qingci: "If you opened a class on ’How to Deceive Men with Quality’, it would definitely be fully booked every time."
"..." She couldn’t continue, so she remained silent.
At this point, Xie Qingci said, "But since you love me to death, I don’t mind such little things."
He’s taking that role-playing from the other day as her true confession, frequently bringing it up. She was almost convinced that she really was a lovesick stalker.
She could only roll her eyes at him to express her speechlessness.
He chuckled but said nothing.
For a moment both of them were quiet. Xie Qingci rubbed his temples with his eyes closed, while Yu Xia lay on the table, blinking slowly and quietly.
Her gaze followed his facial contour, and when he opened his eyes and looked over, her eyes smoothly shifted away.
Xie Qingci: "You’re secretly looking at me."
"Do I need to sneak a look?"
He teased, "Makes sense, look all you want. After all, I belong to you. Do you want me to come back so you can look your fill?"
Yu Xia was rational and decisively refused, "Looking enough is fine; there’s no need for you to come back."
"Why? You don’t want to see me?"
She looked at him with a "don’t you know it yourself?" expression.
"If you could come back in spirit without your body, that’d be fine."
Xie Qingci scratched his nose, "That’s impossible. Out-of-body experiences are just theoretical for now. Or do you want to find me?"
"No," she said lazily, feeling increasingly worn out, her blinking becoming slower, "it’d seem way too clingy. If the paparazzi caught us, who knows how they’d exaggerate it."
Like, "Yu Xia and Xie Qingci inseparable like dry wood on fire," just thinking about it made her blood pressure rise.
Xie Qingci was not surprised by this outcome, nor was he disappointed.
Seeing her looking sleepy, he let it go, softly saying, "Alright, I’ll come back after I finish up with this busy period. Sleep if you’re tired, I’ll watch over you."
"Hmm— Somehow it feels like I didn’t sleep last night. Even though I didn’t feel tired on the hours-long ride back. Maybe talking to you is hypnotic."
"Maybe saying those few words drained you?" he joked, "You hesitated like it was a life-or-death decision for humanity."
Yu Xia lightly gave him a dismissive sound.
"It’s just your particular tastes."
The more she spoke, the more exhausted she felt, her eyelids heavy, so she placed her phone on the bedside stand, aimed it at the bed, then collapsed into the pillow.
"I’m sleeping. If anything comes up, hang up quickly. The filming is noisy, I don’t want to be woken up."
She spoke in a dazed, mumbled manner that sounded like she was being coy, no matter how unreasonable.
This happened to hit Xie Qingci’s soft spot, and he replied in an unbelievably gentle voice.
"Alright, sleep. I’ll read you a couple of passages in English."
With his magnetic, pleasant voice, Yu Xia soon drifted off to sleep.
On screen, her porcelain-white face was non-threatening, and the relaxed expression she wore would make anyone want to reach out and touch her.
"Qingci, are you rested? It’s time to start."
Suddenly Mr. Yang’s voice rang from outside, pausing Xie Qingci’s hand from reaching to touch the screen, instead pressing the end call button and then getting up to leave.
"On my way."
...
Rain fell in the night, cooling the next day’s temperature slightly. Outside, the sky was clear and bright, drops of water fell slowly from leaves, and the fresh green looked vibrant and new.
When Yu Xia woke up, she had a feeling of not knowing what time or day it was.
Outside were the familiar sounds of birds chirping and distant conversations, without checking the time, it should be just past nine.
She opened her eyes, only to find the ceiling light and the wardrobe opposite spinning wildly.
Frowning for a moment, she closed her eyes and opened them again, but the same dizzying scene greeted her.
The entire world was spinning in her vision, making it impossible to focus on anything.
Realization dawned that she might be unwell.
Could she have caught a cold? She pressed the back of her hand to her forehead for a few seconds, not noticing much heat.
Trying to sit up by bracing against the bed only made her dizzier, as if she were on a spinning wheel. Getting out of bed to find her shoes almost sent her headfirst to the floor.
This was unusual, so she picked up her phone, spaced out a bit, and then called Mei and He Ci.
Her actions, under the dizziness, seemed like they were on slow-motion replay. As she waited for the call to connect, she walked slowly out of the room, not daring to turn her head or bend over, moving like a zombie to sit by the sofa.
"Ring—ring." The call connected.
He Ci, yawning, asked, "What’s up? I thought you’d sleep until afternoon since you finally wrapped up filming."
"I’m not feeling well." By the time she spoke, she just realized how weak her voice sounded.
Speaking was an effort. Looking in the small mirror on the coffee table revealed a dispirited appearance.
He Ci was taken aback over the phone, immediately asking, "Not well? Where are you not feeling well?"
Solemn noises suggested he was getting dressed to head out.
She leaned tiredly against the sofa, eyes closed, feeling lifeless, "I’m dizzy and a bit nauseous."
"Hold on, I’ll be right over. Should I call Xie Qingci and your brother? No, I’ll come to check on you first, just sit and rest. I’ll be there in twenty minutes, and I’ll have Mei come over first."
Ending the call, Yu Xia opened her eyes again, but the dizziness hadn’t eased.
Everything in the living room was swaying, and the words on the phone screen were spinning.
The scent of steamed buns from somewhere was all she could smell, leading to chest tightness and the urge to vomit.
Was it really a cold, or something else? She had never experienced this before.
Knowing it would take time for He Ci and Mei to arrive, she endured the dizziness, went online to search for possible illnesses related to these symptoms, hoping to find a way to feel better.
But all the results were serious diseases.
Things like BPPV, hereditary vertigo, intracranial infections, or hypotensive shock jumped out at her, causing her eyelids to twitch, feeling on the brink of a breakdown.
Dizziness and nausea came in waves. She sat there for a few minutes, then called Xie Qingci.
She was unwell, needing concern, needing his company.
She had to voice her needs. She didn’t want to consider work or schedules at this moment; she just wanted Xie Qingci to come back to her.
The call quickly connected, with Xie Qingci’s smiling voice saying, "Good morning."
Yu Xia’s eyes welled up, her discomfort magnifying tenfold.
"Xie Qingci, I’m feeling a bit sick—"
Where exactly she was sick, she couldn’t articulate, but her weak voice already depicted her state.
Xie Qingci’s tone turned anxious, "You’re feeling sick? I’ll call He and them, hold on, head to the hospital immediately."
"What about you?" she asked softly.
"I’ll be right back."
