Chapter 518: Illness
Chapter 518: Illness
He Ci and Mei quickly arrived. At this moment, Yu Xia was already dizzy and collapsed on the sofa, afraid to move, her mind numb. When she opened the door and saw them both, it took her a while to call out their names.
Mei went into the room to get her clothes, while He Ci waved a hand in front of her.
"Are you okay? How many fingers am I holding up?"
"I’m dizzy, not blind or stupid, I..." Before she finished speaking, she stumbled against the wall.
He Ci was shocked and quickly stretched his hands out to cushion her forehead, preventing her from hitting the wall.
"Your symptoms are quite serious, let’s go quickly, to the hospital emergency room!"
He hurriedly directed Mei to take the things and then supported her as they walked out.
"I’m calling your brother right away to get you a fast track. Hey hey hey, hold on, don’t slip!"
Yu Xia: "I’m dizzy! I don’t want to slip!"
"All right, all right, don’t talk anymore. You look like you’ve just given birth, barely having strength to speak."
The voice was half quieter than usual, as if it were An Lingrong calling for Baojuan with a poisoned throat.
It was really difficult to get downstairs; Yu Xia stopped walking, closed her eyes, and weakly panted in place, the dizzy feeling making her unable to walk steadily.
He Ci felt helpless: "Can you still do it? Otherwise, I’ll call 120 directly? If we run into traffic, people might let us through out of humanitarian concern."
Yu Xia was already speechless, gripping his arm tightly, causing He Ci to grimace in pain.
Mei looked worried, just about to speak when a car approached them from the opposite side.
The kind of car ordinary people instinctively avoid, lest they scrape it and end up bankrupt paying for damages.
The person in the driver’s seat got out and walked over briskly.
"What happened?"
Mei widened her eyes, looked at Yu Xia, then exchanged glances with He Ci.
It was Xi Heng.
Yu Xia lifted her eyelids to glance at him without the strength to speak, so He Ci helped to explain.
"She’s unwell, feeling dizzy; not sure if it’s a cold or something."
Xi Heng frowned, taking a closer look at Yu Xia; she was sweating on her forehead, her breathing uneven, clearly not well.
"Did you call her brother?" he asked.
Facing such a commanding presence, He Ci responded without the slightest hesitation.
"Called, said he’s coming over right away, advised to go to the nearest hospital first."
"I’ll drive you there. Her brother invested in a private hospital nearby."
Without asking for permission, he directly lifted Yu Xia and headed to his car.
The sudden movement worsened Yu Xia’s dizziness and nausea; she attempted to retch, clutching his shirt collar so tightly her fingernails turned white.
"Be slow, I’m dizzy."
"Bear with it. If you’re nauseous, just vomit."
After seeing him place her in the car, Mei and He Ci quickly locked the car and followed.
With Xi Heng’s car, they had a smooth trip, and although he appeared like the elderly driving type, his real driving style was aggressive, moving swiftly enough to make He Ci’s heart race.
Thanks to him, Yu Xia was delivered to the hospital emergency room in just over ten minutes.
Then she was carried in for an ECG, where preliminary results indicated possibly myocarditis caused by a cold and overexertion, with sinus arrhythmia, low blood pressure, and blood sugar.
After the check-up, she was hurried to the inpatient ward to get an IV drip.
The inpatient doctor kept asking questions with a notebook in hand, while a young intern kept staring at them.
By now, gossip had already spread, people in the emergency department and nurse station all knew Yu Xia was brought in by Xi Heng, not her actual boyfriend.
No occasion could stop humans from seeking gossip; patients pretended to pass by outside, going back and forth for a peek inside.
Fortunately, the single-patient room was relatively quiet; He Ci went outside, made a call, ensuring no one lingered outside.
The doctors and nurses completed their inquiries and started her on oxygen.
Once the nasal apparatus was fitted, she immediately looked like a critically ill patient. When Yu Heng arrived at the door and saw she was inhaling oxygen, he almost lost his breath.
"What the hell happened, how did she suddenly get so ill?! Where’s the doctor? The attending physician, transfer to..."
"It’s not that serious, it’s just myocarditis caused by a cold and overexertion," Xi Heng stood up, handed him the diagnosis, and took his jacket draped on the chair, "Since you’re here, I’m leaving."
Yu Heng only then focused some attention on him.
"Why are you the one bringing her here?"
"Just happened to be around. She’s really dizzy, keep your voice down. I’m leaving."
Yu Heng nodded, said "I’ll treat you to a meal next time," not planning to see him off, continued bending over the pitiful person in the hospital bed.
This person even struggled to open her eyes weakly.
"Why the cold? Are there other symptoms?"
Yu Xia shook her head slightly: "No, that’s why I thought it wasn’t a cold."
"Do you need an IV drip? Where are they? The drip, why isn’t it here yet!" He shouted towards outside.
After that, he turned to He Ci nearby, said: "Call Xie Qingci back."
His tone was commanding, as if even if Xie Qingci were mining in South Africa, he must see him within half an hour.
He Ci hurried to say: "Called, she called Xie Qingci right away, he should be here soon."
Yu Heng casually waved, indicating acknowledgment, watching as the nurse entered with the IV drip.
Before dripping, blood had to be drawn, a pale yellow tube wrapped around Yu Xia’s upper arm, causing her almost to cry out in pain.
Yu Heng couldn’t bear to watch, scolded her like when she was a child.
"I’ve told you; the pay for filming a movie isn’t more than your bonuses, you should just play along, but you insist on working hard. What’s this overexertion? Did you go filming dangerous scenes again?"
"You’re so noisy, brother," Yu Xia diverted attention through speaking, trying not to watch the needle enter the back of her hand, "What work isn’t tiring? Aren’t you tired being a boss? I didn’t enter this field to fool around."
The nurse quietly asked, "Did you have breakfast this morning?"
She controlled her movement, shaking her head.
The nurse nodded, hung the drip, said, "You can eat a little, then it’s best to rest lying down."
Yu Heng took out his wallet, pulled some bills out, handed them to Mei standing by.
"Can you grab her some breakfast, something light? Also get something for yourselves."
Mei ran out with the money, leaving He Ci to face the boss brother’s interrogation alone.
"Was she unwell when she came back yesterday?"
He Ci: "No, everything was normal. But I left her house in the afternoon, not sure if she felt uncomfortable in the evening."
Probably the one calling daily knows better.
Yu Heng also realized it, turned to ask Yu Xia: "Weren’t you calling Xie Qingci daily? Didn’t he notice? How did you catch a cold at night?"
"Not sure, maybe slept too deeply and didn’t notice the rain, didn’t cover properly. Brother, can you call him, tell him not to rush and prioritize safety on the road."
