Chapter 135 Escape

Chapter 135 Escape

Outside the clock room.

The plague army in the distance stopped attacking after they entered a certain range within the clock room, which gave them a rare chance to catch their breath. If they continued to attack, even with Howard's blood to isolate the influence of the strange white light, the remaining human troops would be killed by the plague creatures.

Taking advantage of this gap, the human troops began to rest. They took out the supplies they carried with them and began to replenish their energy and treat their wounds.

Arabelle stabbed the folding knife into Char's body, cut out the fly's mouthparts and rotten flesh that remained in his body, and then poured some white powder into the wound to stop the bleeding.

Then various tools popped out of her mechanical hand, and she began to try to repair the damaged weapon device on Char's left hand. She removed the melted resistor and reconnected the broken circuit.

She knew that it was a pipe dream to want to repair this high-power laser weapon without professional tools and parts, but now she didn't really want to repair the weapon. Instead, she wanted to find something to do, something that could make her concentrate and put aside other thoughts in her mind.

She bit her lower lip tightly throughout the whole process and said nothing.

Mavis fulfilled Howard's request. She carried the skull of an unknown animal strung together with hemp rope, walking among the resting troops. A fragrant purple powder wafted from the skull's eye sockets, relaxing the tense troops slightly at the scent. Some even fell asleep. However, on a battlefield like this, seizing every opportunity to rest was not a mistake, so no one bothered to wake the sleeping troops.

"boom!"

There was a loud bang from the direction of the clock room; it was the sound of Arabelle's revolver being fired.

Arabelle paused for a moment before returning to her original task.

Howard said she couldn't help and asked her to wait here, and she would obey.

But after the gunshot, something unusual happened around.

First, the ominous silver light that had enveloped everyone rapidly faded, and the faint, almost imperceptible noises and ringing sounds that had been lingering in everyone's ears vanished without a trace. While a person's ears can become selectively deafened when exposed to monotonous sound waves for a long time, their spirits are still affected. Now that the noise had vanished, everyone's spirits lifted.

Then, the Plague Legion, which had originally calmed down, began to stir again.

But this commotion of the Plague Legion did not seem to be a sign of an attack as usual, but more like a kind of...fear?

The ones causing the commotion were mainly Nurglings and Nurgling Beasts, while the zombies who had completely become servants of the plague remained as dull as stone.

Those noisy Nurglings and clumsy Nurgling beasts began to make a commotion. They became restless and began to bump and jump aimlessly, as if they had foreseen that something bad was about to happen.

Following a shattering sound that echoed in everyone's soul, those monsters, which were already no different from wild beasts, completely lost control. They howled and ran wildly, and soon disappeared.

"It's Messiah! Messiah succeeded!" Mavis was the first to recover from her shock, or perhaps she was not surprised at all by these phenomena. However, she was indeed the first person to express the conclusion that had already appeared in everyone's mind but they did not have the courage to say it out loud.

“We succeeded?!”

"We made it!"

A huge cheer erupted among the surviving humans. Although they were still surrounded, judging from the way the monsters fled, they were no longer a threat.

In that case, the only real threats left are the plague zombies. However, after dealing with these plague zombies for so long, those who survived are the most experienced people, and these plague zombies are not difficult enemies for them.

Arabelle was still helping Char repair his weapons, as if the joy and cheers of others had nothing to do with her.

"You have to believe in him. He will come back." Char saw Arabelle's worry and comforted her. "He's an amazing man. Even if he can't come back now, he's definitely still alive. He's just doing more important things."

"Howard! Howard! Howard..."

Suddenly, everyone shouted someone's name in unison. Arabelle's eyes lit up instantly. She slowly stood up and looked tentatively and cautiously towards the clock room.

Sure enough, the man she had kissed not long ago was running towards them, waving at them.

Arabelle was about to smile, but immediately realized something was wrong.

There was no joy on Howard's face, but instead an expression of extreme fear.

As he came closer, Arabelle finally caught the two words he had been shouting, drowned out by the cheers:

"Run!"

"Roar!"

A terrifying roar came from the clock room, as if a huge bellows was pressing gas out from all directions.

The cheers of humanity came to an abrupt end. Not only that, this low roar seemed to be able to cause damage at the soul level. The cheers of many people were stuck in their mouths, seamlessly transitioning into screams.

The atmosphere on the human side suddenly plummeted from ecstasy to an unprecedented abyss. A few people, upon hearing the roar, bled from their ears and noses and wailed with their heads in their hands. Many others, though in better condition, were also completely terrified by the roar. These warriors, who had faced the overwhelming plague army with no fear, now completely lost all hope of resistance at the mere sound of this unknown enemy.

After the growl, there were only about ten humans still brave enough to take up arms, including Char Arabel and Mavis.

Arabelle activated the power of the folding knife. The low roar also made her tremble with fear. She also knew that a terrifying enemy she had never seen before had arrived. Her instinct as a living being was urging her to escape quickly, but her belief and courage as a human made her decide to fight this unknown enemy to the death.

At least, keep Howard alive.

Soon Howard ran in front of her, but Howard held her shoulders, turned her body 180 degrees, and then pushed her hard on the back.

"Run! You fools!" Howard yelled at the top of his lungs. "Run!"

But none of the rational people retreated. They all picked up their weapons with an expression of being ready to die.

"Mr. Howard, please go ahead with Miss Arabelle. We will do our best to buy you some time," Char said calmly.

"Idiot! Idiot!" Howard was so anxious that he jumped up and down, cursing, "It's useless no matter how many of you there are! Run away!"

"No..." Large tears fell from Arabelle's eyes. She turned to look at the irascible man, the physically weakest of their group. "No...we..."

But before she could finish her words, Howard stepped forward, put his arms around her neck, then stood on tiptoe and kissed her on the lips.
