Chapter 12 Discoveries in the Room
Chapter 12 Discoveries in the Room
The two people and the donkey quickly went into the courtyard, and Yao Rongrong turned around and closed the door.
Lin Xiu glanced at it, but did not stop it.
He was used to leaving both the front and back doors open in Mengzhou City so he could escape at any time, but it seemed that Yao Rongrong's habits were different as she traveled around.
Now that we're not in Mengzhou City, my old habits might not be as effective as Yao Rongrong's experience. The living dead here have all been cleared out by Yao Rongrong, so closing the door and resting might be a better approach.
There was a cowshed in the yard, half of which had collapsed, but the other half was still intact, just enough for the black donkey to take shelter from the rain.
Lin Xiu unloaded all the luggage from the donkey's back and said, "Brother Donkey, you can go and rest there."
"Pfft pfft pfft..."
The black donkey tossed its head, its sly eyes glancing at Lin Xiu and then at Yao Rongrong, seemingly looking at something inappropriate.
After reading it, it trotted into the cowshed.
Lin Xiu was about to go into the house, but when he glanced in the direction the black donkey had gone, his eyes lit up slightly.
"Miss Yao, it's inconvenient for me to carry these things. Could you please take a look at what's over there?"
He had quite a lot of things in his hands; with luggage hanging on his arm and bedding in his arms, it was indeed quite inconvenient.
Yao Rongrong wasn't much better off. She had her own bundle slung over her shoulder and Lin Xiu's iron pot in her hand, which contained bowls and chopsticks, so she had to carry it with both hands.
However, she was stronger than Lin Xiu, so she quickly stepped forward.
The location Lin Xiu pointed to was the collapsed half of the cowshed. The wooden planks on the roof had fallen diagonally, forming a slope that crushed half of the cowshed into pieces.
Having been unattended for so long, it was covered in dust and cobwebs.
On a dark and windy night, the spider web swayed in the wind, and the spider had disappeared into who-knows-where.
Yao Rongrong kicked the fallen wooden beams and said, "What could be here? Just some rotten wood."
Lin Xiu said, "Miss, you could see so far before, how come your eyesight isn't so good now?"
These words angered Yao Rongrong, who turned around and glared at Lin Xiu.
Lin Xiu ignored her and gestured with his chin in one direction: "Kick those two pieces of wood away... not those two, but higher up, higher up, yes, the one on the left."
Following his directions, Yao Rongrong kicked away several wooden sticks, and without Lin Xiu's prompting, her gaze sharpened.
"See? That's a wooden wheel! It looks perfectly fine!"
Lin Xiu's voice reached my ears.
Because Yao Rongrong was holding an iron pot that was blocking her view, she could only look down with her head tilted to the side. Without Lin Xiu's prompting, she saw a wooden wheel, which looked quite large.
Moreover, because she was closer to Lin Xiu and had far better eyesight than him, she could see not only the wheels but also the tilted wooden plank from her position.
There should be a broken oxcart here.
She turned to look at Lin Xiu and asked, "Is this what you want?"
Lin Xiu said, "We have Brother Donkey."
Brother Donkey is quietly eating grass again.
This courtyard, once belonging to a landlord, has long been overgrown with weeds due to neglect.
Brother Donkey was eating with great relish, shaking his ears, but he seemed unaware of what Lin Xiu and Yao Rongrong were talking about.
When Lin Xiu called it, it only raised its head to look at Lin Xiu, shook the tuft of mane on its head, and continued to eat grass.
Lin Xiu said, "If all the parts are intact, wouldn't it be much easier for us to assemble them and travel?"
Yao Rongrong smiled and said, "What are you thinking, sir? Instead of wasting time fixing the car, you might as well walk with me."
I've never ridden in an oxcart, but I have ridden in a horse-drawn carriage, and it wasn't very comfortable. After a while, the bumpy ride became quite uncomfortable.
But at least the carriage is fast enough; this donkey, sir, probably can't keep up.
Brother Donkey looked up at Yao Rongrong again, then continued to eat grass in silence.
"Furthermore, if you want to practice your cultivation method, you still need to walk. Although you can cultivate by breathing while sitting in a carriage, the effect is not as good as walking."
Yao Rongrong added the same thing.
Lin Xiu said, "We don't have to sit here ourselves. Wouldn't it be better to have room for our things? With this extra vehicle, we can carry as much stuff as we need. When we find supplies later, we won't have to worry about not having enough space."
Yao Rongrong's beautiful eyes lit up, and she said, "That's right! Sir, you're so kind to remind me."
Brother Donkey could carry so little on his back that I had to plan ahead when we left Mengzhou City. Even the bedding we found in the city couldn't be taken.
If this oxcart can be repaired, at least I can find some bedding and bring it with me. That way, sleeping at night will be much more comfortable!
Brother Donkey looked up at Yao Rongrong again, shook his head, and seemed a little impatient in his eyes peeking out from under his mane.
Why do these two humans keep calling it that?
You're making so much noise you're making the donkey eat grass, you know?!
"Boom!"
Another thunderclap exploded in the sky, its sound carrying for miles.
Amidst the deathly white lightning, a torrential downpour suddenly arrived.
Lin Xiu and Yao Rongrong hurriedly ran into the house.
The room was also covered in dust and cobwebs, but Yao Rongrong had already cleaned it up before. She picked up a broom from the corner and simply cleaned up the dust and cobwebs, so there was no need to clean it up specially now.
Yao Rongrong entered the house and went straight to the inner room. Upon seeing what was inside, she came out beaming and said to Lin Xiu, "Sir, there's a bed here, and all the bedding is there. It seems even Heaven is taking pity on this young lady; if I wanted bedding, I'd have it!"
Lin Xiu said, "That's perfect. You can sleep on the bed tonight, and I'll make do on the table."
The table in the room was quite large. Lin Xiu dragged the table to the center, tidied it up briefly, and then spread his bedding on it.
There were corners of the blanket hanging down on the side, but it didn't affect my rest.
Yao Rongrong patted the bed, which immediately kicked up a cloud of dust and dampness, causing her to cough twice before quickly waving her hand away.
"Never mind, let's just have a simple rest tonight, like usual."
Yao Rongrong sighed and said, "This quilt hasn't been used for too long, we need to tidy it up first."
Lin Xiu said, "Okay, I'll help you with that tomorrow morning."
After saying that, he took off his shoes, went up to the table, crawled into bed, closed his eyes, and went to sleep.
"Splash splash splash—"
The rain was quite heavy outside. Lin Xiu had already closed the door. Listening to the sound of the heavy rain hitting the doors and windows, he found himself sleeping very soundly.
Yao Rongrong sat down against the wall fully clothed, glaring fiercely at the back of Lin Xiu's head as he lay on his side, inwardly grumbling:
That lousy storyteller has no sense of chivalry whatsoever! He just wants to sleep with me like that? He could at least offer a little politeness! I never said I wanted to sleep in your bed, so why is he avoiding the topic like this?!
You stinking storyteller! You stinking storyteller! You stinking storyteller!
"Splash splash splash—"
The rain continued, but Yao Rongrong's thoughts drifted elsewhere without her realizing it.
I wonder if that flower is like the Sun Ladder that Lin Xiu mentioned.
Stairway to the Sun... Stairway to the Sun...
Such a good name, it really doesn't seem like a name associated with great calamity...
