Chapter 71 Huaxi Security Base
Chapter 71 Huaxi Security Base
Gu Nanfeng was surprised that Zhang Hao was from the Huaxi Base. Pei Simin hadn't explained the situation at the Huaxi Base to him before. But now that Zhang Hao was the captain of the search and rescue team at the Huaxi Base and was organizing people to go to the base, it seemed that the Huabei and Huaxi Bases were likely the bases that were accommodating large numbers of survivors. After all, the Huanan and Huabei Bases were currently prioritizing scientific personnel.
"What's going on?" Pei Sihao, who had quickly finished his snail rice noodles downstairs, came up to the second floor and glanced downstairs as he asked.
"Little Pei?" Zhang Hao downstairs was suddenly startled. It was too dark last night and he couldn't see the face clearly. He didn't expect that there was actually the young master of the Pei family in this villa.
"Da Zhang?" Zhang Hao was only a few years older than Pei Sihao. He was also an excellent soldier, so he had met Pei Sihao a few times in Beijing.
"So you're the sniper from last night?" Zhang Hao suddenly laughed. "No wonder your marksmanship was so bad."
Yang Xiao was in charge of washing the dishes today. As soon as Lu Yuan and Zhong Qiang went upstairs, they heard people downstairs complaining about how bad their marksmanship was. They were a little angry!
Seeing that the other party was an acquaintance, they didn't put on airs. The group went downstairs and opened the door for Zhang Hao. Zhang Hao, with one of his men, slipped in through the slightly opened garage door.
"Your awareness of prevention is really good." When Zhang Hao came in, he almost laughed when he saw the cement wall that Lu Yuan and his friends had built themselves, but he held it back.
"Da Zhang, why weren't you assigned to go to the South China base with my brother?" Pei Sihao gave Zhang Hao and his soldier a bottle of iced tea each. Both of them were surprised, and the soldier even held onto it tightly, reluctant to drink it.
"How did you know..." Zhang Hao originally wanted to ask Pei Sihao how he knew Pei Simin was assigned to the South China Base, but thinking that someone from a military family would definitely contact him by satellite phone, he didn't ask. Instead, he asked, "Why aren't you at your G City Security Base? Isn't it quite close to here?"
Pei Sihao didn't hide anything and directly told them that during the second meteor shower, they had been exposed to some virus-laden air, which was why the base was worried about them.
They initially thought that after this explanation, Zhang Hao would immediately leave with his men, but Zhang Hao just laughed and said, "Many people in our base were exposed to the virus air during the second virus rain, so why isn't anyone worried? It's all bullshit!"
Zhang Hao's words sounded somewhat dissatisfaction, not so much directed at the five of them, but more at the G City Security Base. However, it seemed unnecessary to be dissatisfied with the Security Base because of their matter, since G City already had few researchers, and it was not wrong for the commander to be a little conservative.
"That bastard from G City, what the hell, Wang what? He's a real scoundrel!" Seeing Pei Sihao's look like he wanted to press for answers, Zhang Hao didn't hold back and started complaining himself. "We Meteor Shower arrived in G City two days ago, and he wouldn't let us into the base, saying that everyone from the Huaxi Base was a high-risk group. What the hell am I risky!"
From Zhang Hao's words, Lu Yuan and the others roughly learned that after the second viral rain, quite a few people had been accidentally exposed to the virus-laden air. After the 8-hour incubation period, none of them had turned into zombies. At least in the entire Huaxi base, none of these people who had been exposed to the virus-laden air had turned into zombies.
"In other words, we are actually safe after the 8-hour incubation period," Gu Nanfeng asked.
"Exactly. Even if it's not safe, there are so many people in the base. Are we afraid we can't instantly kill a zombie?" Zhang Hao waved his hand unhappily. "I think that Wang Qiang is thinking of establishing his own kingdom."
"Pah, pah, pah, Captain, you can't say things like that!" The soldier next to Zhang Hao quickly interrupted, as this was not the time to create division.
“But Commander Wang is still quite reliable.” Lu Yuan felt that apart from disregarding the lives of them, the suspected infected, Wang Qiang, as a commander, had been very successful in conveying information and organizing resistance on several occasions. He was a rare and excellent base commander.
"Unreliable. Do you think everyone in that base will listen to him?" Zhang Hao waved his hand away from the soldier's hand that was about to cover his mouth. "I don't know what exactly happened in your safe base. As a government employee, it's one thing for him to be unwilling to lead the survivors from his own base to the national safe base, but he's also very resistant. That's very suspicious. Does he really think that he can become king in a chaotic world?"
Zhang Hao was equally blunt, saying, "It's only been three months, the country is still around!"
If Wang Qiang refused to lead his team away from the G City security base, then at least the power supply to the ice storage below the hospital would be guaranteed. The problem that Lu Yuan had been struggling with before seemed to have been solved.
"By the way, Captain Zhang, the Huaxi base is in S province, right? On your way here, did you encounter any teams fleeing from Y province? Or did you encounter any luxury car convoy from our G province?" Gu Nanfeng suddenly thought of Qin Yuan and Lin Yun.
"Ah! You mean that G-Wagon convoy? Holy crap, I don't even know which unit can be that rich!" Zhang Hao suddenly remembered the convoy of luxury cars he had encountered on the road. Although the first car in that convoy was a whole fleet of luxury cars, there were dozens of supply trucks carrying survivors behind their convoy.
Because they happened to run into Zhang Hao and his team from the Huaxi Base, these survivors were directly taken to the Huaxi Base by another squad from Zhang Hao's team.
After settling the survivors in, Zhang Hao originally planned to travel to G City with the convoy of luxury cars, as he had learned during their conversation that they were a supply team from the G City base. However, the other team was in a hurry to return and hand in their mission, and their cars were better than his own. Zhang Hao and his team had to search and rescue along the way, finding a safe place to temporarily house the survivors, and then they would all regroup and head to the Huaxi base together after completing their mission at the G City base. Therefore, they arrived in G City a few days later than the other team.
"You mean Captain Qin and Captain Lin should be back?" Lu Yuan's anxiety finally subsided. "But why didn't they come back after returning to G City?"
“I’m not familiar with any of them, and I can’t match their names to my own. I only remember one of them being surnamed Du.” Zhang Hao recalled the scene when he met the team. The person he had been talking to was the captain surnamed Du.
Lu Yuan knew that Qin Yuan and Lin Yun had been expelled from the base because of their suspected virus infection, and that Du Wenqing was handling external communications, which was normal, so he didn't ask any further questions.
“We need to go to the base to check.” Gu Nanfeng suddenly said, “If Captain Qin and Captain Lin return safely, they will definitely tell us. Even if they are approved to return to the base, they will contact us via walkie-talkie to let us know. They are not such irresponsible people.”
The air suddenly became heavy. After Gu Nanfeng said that, no one felt that Qin Yuan and Lin Yun were safe anymore.
