Chapter 71 The Mystery of the Black Patterns and a Life-or-Death Decision
Within the rune array, a heavy gloom seemed to hang in the air. The once dazzling golden light was visibly dimming under the erosion of the black patterns. The golden ropes had become incredibly fragile, creaking and groaning with each struggle of the behemoth, as if they would snap at any moment. The surrounding runes flickered increasingly eerily, their light reflecting the solemn and fearful faces of the crowd. The air within the array seemed to solidify, so heavy it was hard to breathe, each breath carrying a sense of despair.
Huanmo stared intently at the black patterns spreading across the giant beast's body, cold sweat pouring down his forehead. His heart was filled with anxiety and doubt: "What exactly are these black patterns? Why are they so powerful that they can break through the golden ropes that we finally managed to restrain it? Is there really no way for us to completely subdue it?" He was extremely anxious, yet he dared not act rashly, fearing that a single mistake would make the situation even worse.
The black-robed woman's longsword was already badly damaged, but she still gripped it tightly, her eyes warily fixed on the giant beast. She thought to herself, "No matter what, as long as I have a breath left, I absolutely cannot let it harm anyone again. But these black patterns are too strange; could it be some kind of evil force?" She gritted her teeth, ready to charge forward again at any moment, even if it might be like a mantis trying to stop a chariot.
The man in white frowned, his fingers unconsciously tracing patterns on the jade flute. His gaze darted back and forth between the giant beast and Huanmo, his heart filled with worry: "The situation is getting increasingly out of control. Huanmo just found a way to control the array's core, but it's been disrupted by these black patterns. If we can't figure out its origin and how to break it soon, we're all going to die here." He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down, but his trembling fingers betrayed his inner tension.
The man in the green robe and Qingwan leaned on each other, their faces as white as paper. Qingwan said weakly, "We can't give up like this. There must be another way. We've all persevered this far." The man in the green robe squeezed her hand, giving her strength, and replied, "Yes, even if it costs us our lives, we must fight this beast one more time. We can't let all our previous efforts be in vain."
Wanru, clutching the white tiger, huddled in a corner, trembling. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying, but she still stared intently at everyone, silently praying in her heart, "God, please bless everyone with safety. We've been through so much together, we can't fall here." The white tiger seemed to sense the tense atmosphere as well, its blue eyes widening, and it let out low growls, as if cheering everyone on.
Just as everyone was sinking into despair, the black patterns, having spread to a certain extent, began to slowly change. The originally chaotic patterns gradually converged, forming a strange pattern on the giant beast's forehead. The pattern emitted a deep black light, faintly exuding a chilling aura, as if it came from an endless abyss.
Huanmo's heart skipped a beat. His intuition told him that this pattern must be the key. He muttered to himself, "This pattern looks so sinister. It might be the source of this beast's power. If I can find a way to destroy it, I might be able to completely subdue this beast." Thinking of this, he gritted his teeth and decided to take the risk. Even if it might be a trap, it was better than waiting to die.
"I'll try to break the pattern, you guys help me hold it back as much as possible!" Huanmo shouted, his eyes filled with determination.
Hearing this, everyone was worried, but knowing there was no other way, they all nodded in agreement. The woman in black robes rushed forward first, her long sword aimed at the giant beast's vitals. Although each thrust was difficult, she showed no sign of retreating. The man in white robes played his jade flute again, the rapid notes forming barriers to try and hinder the giant beast's movements, while also creating a better opportunity for Huanmo. The man in green robes and Qingwan cooperated, attacking the giant beast from the side. Even though their strength was almost gone, they still fought with all their might.
Huanmo took a deep breath, mobilized the remaining energy in his body, and flew towards the pattern on the giant beast's forehead. The closer he got to the giant beast, the more intense the evil aura became, as if it wanted to devour his soul. Huanmo felt cold all over, but the belief in his heart supported him to continue forward.
Just as his hand was about to touch the pattern, the giant beast suddenly let out a deafening roar, violently whipping its head, and a powerful force swept towards Huanmo. Huanmo was unable to dodge in time and was struck by the force. He was sent flying like a kite with a broken string, crashing heavily to the ground. A mouthful of blood spurted from his mouth, staining the ground in front of him red.
"Huanmo!" everyone exclaimed. Wanru was so frightened that she covered her mouth and tears welled up in her eyes.
Huanmo struggled to stand up, but the excruciating pain in his body almost made him fall again. He looked at the giant beast, his heart filled with resentment: "Is there really no way? How can I give up like this? Everyone is still waiting for me." He endured the pain, gathered his strength again, and prepared to charge at the giant beast once more.
Just then, the pattern on the giant beast's forehead seemed to be stimulated by something and began to flash. With each flash, the surrounding space distorted a little, and the rune array trembled violently. Cracks spread out in the array, as if the entire rune array was about to collapse.
Everyone watched in horror, wondering what terrible consequences the distorted space and the collapsing rune array would bring.
