Chapter 6 My sister got hit by a car and became mentally impaired!
She quickly changed her demeanor, smiling as she stepped forward and grabbed Wen Luozhi's hand, saying ingratiatingly, "Auntie, what you said this morning was just said in anger!"
"Good Luo Luo, what man doesn't cheat? Just forgive Huai Zhi this time. Once he passes the imperial examination and becomes a scholar, you'll be a scholar's wife when you marry into the family! Don't you think so?" She whispered to Wen Luo Zhi.
Wen Luozhi smiled and replied, "No! I don't even want your rotten cabbage leaves. If you keep spewing nonsense and don't pay back the money, I'll tell everyone right now!"
She shook off Zhang Chunhua's hand and shouted, "Auntie, you're really joking! I thought you really weren't going to return my money!"
"You're welcome. It's no trouble at all for a neighbor to help out. I hope you'll keep your word and pay back the money soon."
Zhang Chunhua was so angry with her that she turned pale and couldn't say a word.
The village chief placed the IOU in front of her again. She rolled her eyes, still wanting to renege on the debt, but Wen Luozhi gave her a warning look. She shrank back and reluctantly signed the IOU.
After receiving the IOU, Wen Luozhi grinned and waved her hand, heading home.
Big and small items filled the entire courtyard of Old Man Wen's house. Little Tiger, being small, happily followed behind the adults, joining in the fun. "Wow, this can be used for meals!"
"Mmm, this blanket is so soft and comfortable."
……
Wen Luozhi was amused by him and touched his little face with a touch of tenderness. The little tiger shrank back in fear, and she awkwardly touched her nose.
This three-year-old child looks like a two-year-old; he looks malnourished no matter how you look at him.
After organizing all the belongings, the house transformed from a bare shell into a "fully furnished" home.
Wen Luozhi sighed, "The original owner was such a spendthrift! Such a spendthrift!"
It was already dark when Wen Dalang finally carried his hoe home, followed by two little girls, one carrying a basket on her back and the other with something in her pocket.
Both little girls were extremely thin, with legs and arms as thin as each other.
As soon as Wen Ziming entered the courtyard, he saw Wen Luozhi. He put down his hoe and rushed to Wen Luozhi. The burly man's dark face was filled with anxiety.
"Little sister, are you...are you alright?"
He heard about it on his way back! His little sister almost got hit and killed! He was so worried that he wished he could sprout wings and fly back!
Seemingly remembering something, he took a few steps back.
My little sister hates smelly things the most, and I don't want his sweaty body to bother her, a young girl.
Wen Luozhi felt a mix of sadness and warmth in her heart. What a wonderful older brother! He hadn't even had a sip of water after coming back from work, and his first words of concern were for his carefree younger sister.
She didn't say anything, but turned around and went to the kitchen to pour water.
Wen Ziming lowered his head in disappointment. He should have taken a shower and changed his clothes. His sister had been driven away by the smell.
Just as he was about to go back to pick up the hoe, Wen Luozhi came running out again, carrying a full bowl of water.
"Big brother! Drink some water!" She smiled sweetly, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Wen Ziming.
Startled, Wen Ziming took a step back and craned his neck to call out, "Mother! Mother! Come out quickly! Something terrible has happened! My sister has been hit and is mentally impaired!"
He shouted loudly, "My sister usually calls me a peasant and wouldn't even look at me, let alone ask me to pour her water. She must have hit her head!"
Hearing the commotion, Xie He came out, rushed to him, and slapped him on the back of the head. "What are you yelling about, you idiot! Your sister is fine! You're the one who's gone mad!"
Wen Ziming covered his head and stammered, "But...but..." He pointed to the bowl of water in Wen Luozhi's hand.
Xie He took the bowl, shoved it into his hand, and rolled her eyes. "Can't Luo Luo, the little sister, really be considerate of her big brother?! Fine, if you don't want it, give it to me!" With that, she tried to snatch the bowl of water back.
Wen Ziming quickly held her in his arms, turned around and finished his drink in a few gulps, then turned back and raised the bowl. "Little sister, big brother has finished drinking!" He grinned at Wen Luozhi, looking extremely honest and simple.
Wen Luozhi smiled sweetly, her eyes crinkling, and asked, "Would you like another bowl, big brother? I'll go pour you another one."
Wen Ziming was about to nod with delight when Xie He slapped him on the back of the head and laughed, "You want to work your sister to death too?! Go pour yourself some water if you want to drink it!"
"Also, go wash up quickly! Don't let the smell overwhelm your sister!"
Wen Ziming scratched his head and walked into the house, looking back every few steps.
Er Ya timidly tugged at Wen Luozhi's sleeve, raised her head and whispered, "Auntie, these are wild berries that my sister and I picked for you." As she spoke, she spread out her clothes, revealing a large bag of bright red berries inside.
Wen Luozhi looked down and saw a thin little girl with big eyes tugging at her clothes. She squatted down and said gently, "Are these all for Auntie?"
Er Ya was a little scared, but when she thought about how beautifully her aunt had smiled at her father, she turned to look at Da Ya, who gave her an encouraging look.
Er Ya mustered her courage and said in her childish voice, "Give it all to Auntie! Auntie's head won't hurt anymore if she eats it!" The little girl stood on tiptoe and blew on the wound on her forehead.
"Thank you, Da Ya and Er Ya."
Wen Luozhi was deeply moved and hugged the small body into her arms. Usually, "she" often bullied her older brother's two girls, and would often snatch food from them. Unexpectedly, the two little ones did not hold any grudges.
She waved to Daya, who was not far away. Daya pursed her lips and walked over, but did not reach her.
Wen Luozhi wasn't angry. After all, Da Ya had been beaten by her quite a bit before, so she was probably scared. She sighed inwardly, thinking about all the things the original owner had done!
She smiled slightly at the two sisters and said softly, "Go wash your hands and eat. We'll have chicken tonight."
Er Ya's eyes lit up when she heard about the chicken, but then dimmed again.
All the good food goes to my aunt; they don't get any, and Grandma won't let them eat it either.
Daya led Erya to wash her hands, but she was still thinking about what her aunt had looked like earlier.
My aunt looks so beautiful when she smiles, unlike her usual fierce and stern face. Maybe she's a little out of it because she hit her head! Da Ya thought to herself.
At the dinner table, the whole family stared at the pot of chicken.
It's called chicken, but it's really just chicken bones with a few strands of meat hanging on them. People can't even afford to eat, so how good can chicken be?
Xie He picked up the spoon, and everyone stared at her nervously.
She glared at me and immediately snapped, "What are you all looking at?! This whole pot belongs to your sister!"
"Her forehead is still bleeding! You heartless people, you even covet this little bit of food!" After scolding her, he pushed the vegetable bowl in front of Wen Luozhi, picked up a spoon and ladled a big bowl of soup and meat for her.
"My dear girl, eat this while it's hot so your injury will heal faster. If you're still hungry, there's more. This whole bowl is yours." As she spoke, she glared at the people at the table. They quickly lowered their heads and ate the porridge in their bowls, occasionally picking up a piece of cold wild vegetable salad with nothing on it.
Wen Luozhi looked at the thick porridge in her bowl, then at the bowls of others.
That's hardly porridge! It's just a bowl of rice water with a few grains of rice on it!
Her mother and father's bowls were no exception, and even Wen Ziming, who went out to work every day, had the same bowl. It made her feel suffocated.
Pushing a pot of chicken and a large bowl of porridge in front of her onto the middle of the table, Wen Luozhi pouted and said, "I don't enjoy eating this by myself! We'll eat together, or I won't eat!" She slammed her chopsticks on the table, looking sullen.
Xie He stepped forward and coaxed, "What's wrong with you, child! You always eat all the good food by yourself! And it's the same now!"
She shoved the chopsticks into Wen Luozhi's hand, then turned her head and looked coldly at the people at the table.
It must be because they were watching the little girl that she got angry and stopped eating!
The group shivered and lowered their heads even further.
