Chapter 14 Going to town

Chapter 14 Going to town

When the topic of going to town came up, Daya and Erya's eyes lit up with longing, but then, as if remembering something, the two girls shrank back behind their parents.

Wen Luozhi sighed silently; she knew why.

The original owner said when she went to town last time that she was going to sell Er Ya to raise money for Lin Huaizhi's college entrance examination. At that time, Daya was desperately protecting her younger sister when the original owner kicked her into the chicken coop.

Finally, Li Chunxing took out the silver hairpin from her dowry and gave it to the original owner, which saved Er Ya from disaster.

Wen Luozhi was utterly speechless; her road to clearing her name was truly long and arduous...

"Which of you would like to go to town with your aunt?" She walked over and gently asked the two girls, extending a hand.

Er Ya trembled with fear and hid in Li Chunxing's arms. Although she had eaten delicious meat today because of her aunt, she still remembered very clearly how her aunt had tried to sell her last time. She was scared!

Xie He was furious at her behavior and stepped forward to yell, "Your aunt is asking you a question! Are you mute?! It's like she's going to eat you alive!"

That incident must have been instigated by those two damned bastards from the Lin family to do it! She didn't believe her daughter, a young girl, could come up with such a vicious plan.

Wen Luozhi twitched her lips, somewhat embarrassed, and said, "Forget it, Mother. They're all worried, but it's okay if I don't go." Just as she was about to withdraw her hand, Daya offered her her calloused little hand. "Auntie, I'll go with you."

Da Ya pursed her lips, her eyes resolute. She had just seen the disappointment in her aunt's eyes, and she instinctively knew it couldn't be faked.

She's grown up and understands some things. Actually, she could have asked her grandmother to bring the things back while they were in the field today, but her aunt made her and Er Ya bring them back instead.

The sun was so strong at the time, it was clearly meant to keep them out of the sun.

Considering what has happened in the past two days, she is willing to trust her aunt this time.

Li Chunxing tried to pull her back, but Wen Ziming tugged at her clothes and shook his head at her.

Wen Luozhi's eyes lit up and she said happily, "Then Auntie will buy you and Er Ya some pretty hair accessories!"

She had originally intended to try and break through from the small part, but she didn't expect that Daya would actually believe her.

Thinking about how it would make things easier for her in the future, she pulled Xie He into her room after washing up.

"Mother, I have something very serious to tell you." She sat upright on the bed, staring at Xie He without blinking.

Xie He felt a chill run down her spine from her gaze and asked nervously, "What is it, sweetheart?"

Wen Luozhi patted her hand and said, "Mother, don't be afraid when I tell you."

Xie He nodded solemnly, "What storms haven't I weathered, daughter? Tell me quickly."

“Mother, I was going to die that day, but an old deity took pity on me for being deceived and told me to come back and atone for my sins.”

He said that as long as I do more good deeds, correct my old bad habits, and let my family live a good life, I can live a peaceful and smooth life.

Wen Luozhi made up the story without batting an eye, saying that people in ancient times were very superstitious and that what she said would be more believable.

Sure enough, Xie He's breathing quickened upon hearing her words, and tears welled in her eyes as she hugged Wen Luozhi with heartache, "My dear baby, thank goodness you're back, thank goodness you're back!"

"May the old immortal protect me, may the old immortal protect me!" She began to bow towards the window again.

Wen Luozhi pulled her along and continued, "Mother, the old immortal also gave me a treasure!"

She winked at Xie He, redeemed a pack of chocolates from the system, and the item appeared in her hand the next second.

Xie He was stunned, pointing at the thing in her hand with her mouth agape, and exclaimed in surprise, "This...this..."

Her daughter can actually conjure things out of thin air!

Wen Luozhi unwrapped a chocolate and put one in her mouth. "Mom, this is candy from the gods!"

Xie He nodded blankly, then closed his mouth to savor the taste.

The candy given by the deity was different from the candy she had eaten before. It tasted slightly bitter but was smooth and had a very rich and sweet flavor.

She suddenly grabbed Wen Luozhi and said seriously, "You must keep this to yourself and not tell anyone!"

If someone with ulterior motives finds out about this, they might spread rumors that her daughter is a monster. Just thinking about it is terrifying!

"Yes, yes, I only told Mom."

Wen Luozhi nodded seriously, mimicking her expression, then stuffed the remaining chocolates into her arms, saying, "Mother works the hardest in the family, give this to Mother."

“If the gods gave it to you, you should keep it. Your mother has already tasted it.” She pushed the things back.

The mother and daughter went back and forth several times before Xie He finally managed to refuse, wiping away her tears and accepting the gift with a heart full of warmth. Her daughter was so good to her.

……

The next day, the whole family got up very early. Wen Luozhi led Daya and followed Xie He towards the village entrance.

Old Zhao's oxcart was already waiting under the tree. Upon seeing the three of them, he immediately greeted them, "Come on, get on, that'll make the difference."

The women on the oxcart all shut up when they saw Wen Luozhi, but none of them suggested moving.

"Sister Xie, Luo girl! Come sit next to me!" Aunt Wang warmly moved over to make room for two people.

Once in the car, Wen Luozhi held Daya on her lap and placed the basket containing pheasants and rabbits at Xie He's feet.

Zhang Chunhua clicked her tongue when she saw the mother and daughter, "Luo girl, are you going to town to sell your niece?"

"Is that the smaller one inside the basket?" she asked, craning her neck to peer into the basket.

"Slap!" Before Xie He could even curse her, Wen Luozhi slapped her across the face.

"You can't expect ivory to come out of a dog's mouth," she sneered.

Being beaten by a little girl early in the morning, Zhang Chunhua was furious and was about to pounce on her, but Xie He kicked her in the chest, sending her flying to the back of the car.

“Our family isn’t the kind that sells its children. If you hadn’t taken advantage of my daughter’s young age and instigated her last time, would she have done something like that?”

Xie He looked coldly at Zhang Chunhua. She still owed her family so much money, yet she was still not behaving herself. She would get itchy if she wasn't taught a lesson.

"Hmph! Me, instigating her?" Zhang Chunhua pointed to her own nose and said, "Only you would want a good-for-nothing like her! You heartless bastard!"

She did instigate that, but so what? She just won't admit it!

She had just gotten up when Daya suddenly jumped off Wen Luozhi's lap and headbutted her again, causing the oxcart to sway.

“My aunt would never sell me! You’re the heartless bastard! And your gigolo son too!” Daya yelled angrily at her.

"Hey, you little rascal!"

Zhang Chunhua struggled to her feet and raised her hand to hit Daya, but Xie He and her daughter both stood up at the same time.

Wen Luozhi grabbed her hand and pushed her away. Zhang Chunhua tried to rush forward, but Zhao Laohan's impatient voice came over, "Zhang Chunhua! If you cause any more trouble, get off the bus!"

He didn't want to give her a ride this morning, but she insisted on getting in the car!

Well, that's great! The oxcart has barely started moving when trouble breaks out!

Zhang Chunhua paused, pursed her lips, covered her face, and reluctantly sat back down.

But the hateful gaze remained fixed on Wen Luozhi.

Wen Luozhi raised an eyebrow and casually picked at her fingers, saying with a smile, "Aunt Zhang, don't forget you still owe my family twenty-six taels of silver."

Zhang Chunhua was deflated. That was twenty-six taels of silver! It was written clearly in black and white. If she didn't return it, her Huaizhi would go to jail! She would lose her job as a scholar's mother!

She sat there with a gloomy expression, no longer in the mood to cause trouble. Wen Luozhi gently stroked Daya's dry, yellow hair.

Hmm, I didn't expect this girl to be so protective of her own! She likes it!
