Chapter 153 The Beard Arrives
Chapter 153 The Beard Arrives
As soon as the gunshot rang out, more than two hundred cavalrymen, hidden in the woods hundreds of meters away, rushed toward the fortress gate.
"Clang, clang, clang!" The bronze bell on the city tower, which had never rung before, was struck.
"The bearded man is coming! The bearded man is coming!" the two lookouts shouted hysterically.
Chaos erupted in the fortress as chickens and dogs scattered and women and children fled to their homes. The men grabbed knives, spears, bows, and arrows and ran outside.
"Where did this bearded man come from, daring to covet my Jafon Fortress!" Jafon was forty-three years old, in his prime. He was tall and burly, covered in fat.
As he ordered his servants to put on their armor, Etai roared angrily!
Several quick-handed Manchu soldiers, armed with knives and spears, rushed toward the fortress gate, but they were struck hard when they were still dozens of meters away.
A burst of gunfire rang out, and five or six people fell to the ground. The other Manchus quickly hid behind the house.
A moment later, the sound of hooves clattered, and a band of mounted bandits stormed into the fortress. Immediately following was a cacophony of gunfire.
Stone didn't charge ahead; instead, he followed slowly behind with seven or eight warriors.
He separated from the company commander six months ago, leading more than two hundred men to advance northeastward along the river. In the past six months, he has grown to three or four hundred men under his command.
The old comrades he had brought with him before had all become junior leaders; they had fought many battles like this. Knowing that the fortress gate had been captured, he wouldn't need to worry about much afterward.
I've heard that the Aotai father and son are notorious villains for miles around, and today I've come specifically to deal with them.
Less than an hour later, the gunfire inside the fortress ceased. Stone led the way leisurely on horseback into the castle, arriving at the largest and finest house in the area.
At this moment, Etai lay on the ground covered in blood, but he was not dead; both of his thighs had been shot. He lay on the ground, glaring fiercely at Shi Tou and the others who walked in.
