Chapter 382 - 375: So Be It, Let’s Break Up
Seeing how calm he was, Sienna Hale was shocked and grew angry. "Seth, you already knew about this, didn’t you? You actually conspired with her to deceive us, didn’t you? You knew she was a woman with... that kind of background, and you still..."
Seth Quinn shrugged, looking a bit helpless in the face of his mother’s accusation. "Actually, I didn’t know."
His words were only an answer to Sienna Hale’s first question, but to Clara Grant, it sounded as though he was responding to all of Sienna’s accusations.
’Does he mean he didn’t know I had a background like that, and if he had, he wouldn’t be with me?’
’Heh.’ Clara mocked herself inwardly. ’Right, how could I have forgotten? The Quinn family is the most powerful in Novaria, the city’s foremost prestigious family. How could Seth Quinn possibly let someone like me—someone with what the aristocracy considered a so-called shameful background and lowly status—step through the Quinn family’s doors, tarnish their glorious name, and bring shame to them all?’
’These past few days, she must have been drowning in the warmth and happiness he’d given her. She’d been so comfortable that she’d gotten completely carried away, hadn’t she? That must be why she’d completely forgotten the vast, insurmountable gap between her status and his!’
’And she’d actually been so clueless as to follow him to the Quinn family’s home to meet his parents?’
’Even if Seth didn’t find her repulsive, the Quinn family would never let her marry into their home. Besides, Seth found her repulsive too!’
"What’s wrong, Clara Grant? Still not going to admit your origins?" Chloe Grant lifted her chin, shooting her a provocative look. Then she turned to Sienna Hale. "Auntie, since she won’t admit it, we could just ask her mother, Skylar Hayes, to come over. I’m sure that after what *she* went through, she’ll have to admit it, won’t she?"
Seth Quinn stared at Chloe Grant, his brow deeply furrowed and a frosty look in his eyes. Just as he was about to speak, Clara beat him to it.
"Yes, I admit it!"
’How could she let them drag her mother here and force her to admit to the humiliation she once suffered in front of everyone?’
’For her mother, that would be even more humiliating, even more cruel!’
"I admit it. I admit my status isn’t as noble as yours. I admit I don’t know who my biological father is. But I don’t consider it my shame, and I don’t think it makes me someone who has to hide in the shadows! My mother was violated and gave birth to me—it wasn’t her choice. Why don’t you stop and think? She was the one who was wronged. She was the one who had no control over her own body. So why, in the end, is she the one who’s misunderstood and blamed?"
Seth Quinn listened, stunned. But more than shock, he felt a sharp pang of heartache. ’He never imagined she was hiding such a painful secret!’
’But why didn’t she tell him? If he had known, he could have helped her carry this pain!’
’If he had known, he never would have let this happen today!’
He stared at her, his gaze unwavering, and asked softly, "Why didn’t you tell me?"
"Well, I’ve told you now, haven’t I?" Clara said, a self-deprecating smile on her face. "Now that you know, do you feel like I deceived you? Seth, if you want to break up, then let’s just break up."
With that, Clara ignored him and turned to Theodore Quinn and Sienna Hale. She gave a slight bow and said quickly, "Mr. Quinn, Mrs. Quinn, I was so happy to come and meet you today, but I never expected to cause you so much trouble. I’m so sorry for the intrusion."
After she finished speaking, she straightened up and, without another look at anyone, turned and ran out the door.
