After seeing two or three patients, Fang Xiaoxiao was about to take a short break when a villager approached her, pleading earnestly, "Miss Fang, there are many patients in our village. Could you come and treat them?"
Looking at the villagers' expectant eyes, Fang Xiaoxiao nodded without hesitation and said, "Okay, no problem."
Pei Yan and Ouyang Tuoba volunteered to be bodyguards, and Li Wan'er also offered to accompany them. So, the group followed the villagers into the village.
As soon as they reached the village entrance, they encountered Zhang San, the son who had treated the old man at the aunt's house the day before. Zhang San was dressed in clean clothes today, his face beaming with a fawning smile. He quickly stepped forward to greet them: "Oh, dear esteemed guests, we've been waiting for you!"
Fang Xiaoxiao politely replied, "Hello."
Zhang San hurriedly led the way, repeatedly expressing his gratitude.
Fang Xiaoxiao assumed he was genuinely grateful, unaware that Zhang San and his associates were plotting against her.
It turned out that after Zhang San returned home, he and a few of his good-for-nothing friends conspired to make a fortune off Fang Xiaoxiao's kindness. They spread rumors throughout the village that Fang Xiaoxiao was a highly skilled doctor who treated patients for free, attracting many villagers to come to her clinic. However, their plan was to charge the villagers exorbitant fees after Fang Xiaoxiao finished her treatments, and then shift all the blame onto her.
Fang Xiaoxiao followed Zhang San into the village and saw many villagers already waiting in a dilapidated house. Without thinking twice, she immediately began to treat the patient.
Pei Yan and Ouyang Tuoba stood aside, cautiously observing their surroundings.
Li Wan'er then helped by getting the medicine and handing out water.
Fang Xiaoxiao diligently diagnosed and prescribed medicine for each patient, completely unaware that she had fallen into Zhang San and his gang's trap.
As more and more people came to see the doctor, Zhang San and his gang became increasingly smug.
Just as Fang Xiaoxiao finished seeing the last patient and was about to leave, Zhang San suddenly changed his expression and blocked their way.
"Miss Fang, you can't have come to see a doctor for free, can you?" Zhang San said sarcastically.
Fang Xiaoxiao was taken aback and said, "I didn't receive any money."
Zhang San sneered, "That won't do. We went to a lot of trouble to invite you here, so we can't let you see these villagers for free. You have to pay us!"
The villagers were stunned when they heard this, and they all said, "Wasn't it supposed to be free?"
Zhang San said loudly, "This Miss Fang doesn't charge for her medical treatment, but we still have to pay her for our trouble!"
Fang Xiaoxiao then realized that she had been deceived by Zhang San, and her heart was filled with anger and helplessness.
Zhang San and his companions then revealed their ugly, triumphant expressions, their smiles filled with smugness and greed.
Seeing Zhang San's shamelessness, the villagers angrily cursed, "Zhang San, have you no shame? We've always treated you like a human being!"
Zhang San remained unmoved, still smiling as he said, "Hmph, you have to pay today, or don't even think about letting this little wench treat you anymore!"
Fang Xiaoxiao quickly stepped forward to stop him, saying, "Zhang San, don't go too far. I came here with the good intentions of treating everyone, how can you do this?"
Pei Yan and Ouyang Tuoba could not stand being bullied like this, so they rolled up their sleeves and prepared to teach Zhang San and the others a lesson.
Seeing this, Zhang San and his companions were not afraid at all. Instead, they acted like scoundrels, shouting loudly, "Help! They're going to kill someone!"
The atmosphere instantly became tense.
Just then, one of Zhang San's friends pretended to try and reason with Pei Yan and his companion, slowly approaching Pei Yan. Pei Yan frowned, watching him warily.
But as soon as the man got close to Pei Yan, he suddenly collapsed and started convulsing.
Upon seeing this, Zhang San and his companions immediately cried out, "Oh no! Murder! Pei Yan has murdered someone!"
This sudden turn of events stunned everyone present.
Pei Yan looked bewildered and angry, and shouted, "I didn't touch him at all! He collapsed on his own!"
Zhang San ignored them and cried even louder: "You're still trying to deny it! Everyone saw it! You're the one who ruined him!"
The villagers were also at a loss because of the chaotic scene. Some believed Pei Yan, while others were skeptical.
Fang Xiaoxiao looked at the person convulsing on the ground, then at the angry Pei Yan and the arrogant Zhang San, her mind racing as she tried to find out the truth.
Li Wan'er also said anxiously, "This must be their conspiracy. Pei Yan wouldn't hurt someone for no reason."
Upon hearing Li Wan'er's words, Zhang San pointed at her and cursed, "You little brat, stop talking nonsense! This matter isn't over yet, you have to give us an explanation!"
Ouyang Tuoba shouted angrily, "Zhang San, don't make false accusations! We have done nothing wrong and are not afraid of your slander!"
Zhang San, however, refused to give up and continued to cry and make a scene. The entire village was filled with his clamor, and the situation became increasingly difficult to manage.
In this chaotic moment, some villagers began to lose their composure. One of them, a thin man, stepped forward, his face filled with anxiety and urgency. He said, “Hey, stop arguing! My husband has been bedridden for days. I was going to go to the city to get a doctor, but then Zhang San told me about this free medical service, so I kept putting it off, thinking I could save some money. Miss Fang, you're so wealthy, why don't you just give some money to Zhang San's friend to settle this matter and get us medical treatment first?”
Another villager with a fierce face chimed in, "That's right, that's right, Miss Fang, please be kind and don't hold a grudge against Zhang San. We're all poor people, how can we afford this kind of trouble? Please give them some money and tell them to stop making a scene, and get us medical treatment as soon as possible!"
These villagers chattered amongst themselves, completely disregarding Fang Xiaoxiao's feelings and only thinking about their own interests. Their selfish and self-serving behavior was chilling to behold.
Hearing the villagers' words, Zhang San became even more smug. He narrowed his eyes, a cunning smile spreading across his face, and said, "Did you hear that, Miss Fang? Everyone's waiting. If you know what's good for you, you'd better hand over the money quickly, or this matter won't be so easily resolved today!"
Zhang San's friends chimed in, each looking menacing: "That's right, stop dawdling, hurry up and pay!"
Zhang San walked up to Fang Xiaoxiao and said in a low voice, "Miss Fang, I advise you to behave yourself, or you won't be leaving this village today. Think about it, is it worth risking your life for this little bit of money?"
Looking at Zhang San's ugly face, Fang Xiaoxiao was filled with anger and disappointment. She never expected that her good intentions would be exploited and blackmailed in this way.
