Chapter 1331 Cough
Chapter 1331 Cough
Upon hearing this, Lin Yiwan paused slightly, then looked at Ah Zhi and asked gently, "Young Master, what exactly is your sister's illness?"
When Ah Zhi heard that Lin Yiwan was willing to inquire about her sister's condition, his eyes lit up instantly, and he quickly replied, "Madam, my sister has contracted a cough. She is lying in bed, feeling weak all over and unable to eat. The village doctor came to see her and prescribed some medicine, but it didn't work. She is now very weak and can only muster some energy when she eats white fish!"
As he finished speaking, Ah Zhi's voice choked with emotion, and his eyes reddened: "Madam, please save my sister. She's so young, I can't lose her."
The boy raised his head, his eyes full of pleading, and bowed deeply to Lin Yiwan: "Please, Madam, lend us your help. We will never forget your great kindness."
Looking at the earnest expressions of the two boys, and then at Zhan Miao beside her who was full of expectation, Lin Yiwan had already made up her mind.
She gently patted Zhan Miao's hand, then looked at A Zhi and the boy, and said softly, "You don't need to be so polite. Doctors are compassionate, and since your sister is seriously ill, I naturally have no reason to stand by and watch her die. I just don't know where you live, or how far it is from here?"
When Zhan Miao saw Lin Yiwan agree, he was overjoyed and quickly said, "Mother, thank you so much! Azhi's family lives in a village just outside this dense forest. It's not too far. We can walk there in half an hour."
Xie Jianshu also spoke up: "Mother, I will lead the way with some people to clear the path and get to their house as soon as possible so as not to delay their treatment."
Lin Yiwan nodded, took out a bottle of wound medicine from her medicine box, and went to treat Bai Lang's wounds first.
After everything was settled, she ordered everyone to descend the mountain.
Ah Zhi led them back to the village, where a woman ran over anxiously, saying, "Ah Zhi, Ah Yuan, you're finally back! Go check on Yan'er, she's almost dead!"
The fish basket on A Yuan's back immediately fell to the ground. He didn't care and ran straight into the dark and cold room.
A thin figure lay on the bed, her breathing completely still.
Ah Zhi crawled to Lin Yiwan's feet and pleaded, "Madam, please save my sister, please!"
Lin Yiwan didn't dare to hesitate and immediately stepped forward to take Yan'er's pulse.
Once he was sure she wasn't quite dead, he took a silver needle and pierced her heart.
Just then, a flurry of footsteps sounded outside, followed by a large group of people crowding into the house.
The man leading them was the village chief, who frowned and asked, "A-Zhi, A-Yuan, who are these people?"
The village chief's face was grim, his cloudy eyes filled with vigilance and hostility. His gaze swept over Lin Yiwan and her group, who were dressed exquisitely and had a distinct temperament, and finally fixed on her hand holding the silver needles.
His tone was accusatory and left no room for argument: "Ah Zhi, explain yourself clearly, what are these outsiders doing? How could Yan'er suddenly stop breathing? What is that thing she's holding? Did she kill Yan'er?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the villagers who had followed the village chief into the house immediately erupted in a commotion.
Someone peeked over the bed on tiptoe and gasped when they saw Yan'er's motionless state.
Some people whispered and pointed at Lin Yiwan's outfit, their eyes full of rejection and suspicion.
The mountain village was remote and isolated, and outsiders rarely visited. Although Lin Yiwan and her group did not look like bad people, their attire and the medicine box they carried still seemed a bit strange to the villagers.
Ah Zhi had just snapped out of his frantic pleading and immediately scrambled to his feet to stand in front of Lin Yiwan, urgently explaining, "Grandpa Village Chief, you've misunderstood! This is Madam Zhan, the doctor we invited. Yan'er is dying, and Madam is trying to save her!"
The village chief scoffed, stepped forward and shoved Ah Zhi aside, his eyes sweeping over Lin Yiwan with disdain: "She's so young, does she even deserve to be called a doctor? I've lived most of my life, and every doctor I've seen has gray hair and is incredibly experienced. She's just poking around with a broken needle; who knows, she might be the one who punctured Yan'er's breath!"
Lin Yiwan paused for a moment while holding the silver needles, but did not stop.
She could feel that although Yan'er's pulse was weak, it had a very subtle throbbing under the stimulation of the silver needles. This was a critical moment, and she could not afford to be distracted in the slightest.
Without looking up, her tone was calm yet firm: "Village chief, saving lives is the priority. If you have any questions, wait until I've saved her."
The village chief, as if he had heard the biggest joke in the world, suddenly raised his voice and reached out to strike the silver needle in Lin Yiwan's hand: "If you ask me, you're trying to destroy the evidence! Yan'er was fine this morning, but she turned into this after you came. If you didn't harm her, who else could it be? I think you're just swindlers who came to our village to harm people!"
Seeing this, Xie Jianshu immediately stepped forward and stopped the village chief's hand, his face darkening: "Village chief, you must speak with evidence. Our lady was trying to save people out of kindness, and you are slandering her without even knowing the facts. That is too unreasonable."
The village chief shook off Xie Jianshu's hand, glaring at him angrily: "You've almost killed someone, and you still want to reason with me! If anything happens to Yan'er, none of you will leave here!"
The villagers standing nearby were stirred up by the village chief's words and became increasingly agitated.
A middle-aged man stepped forward, pointed at Lin Yiwan, and angrily rebuked, "I think she's a witch, trying to fool people with a broken needle. Yan'er must have been cursed by her!"
"Yes, that must be it! No outsider is any good. They might just be here to steal things and kill people!"
"We can't let her mess around like this anymore. If she keeps poking her, Yan'er will really be beyond saving!"
Discussions rose and fell, and several hot-blooded young villagers even rolled up their sleeves, ready to fight.
A-Yuan squatted by the bedside, looking at his sister's unhealthy face and listening to the villagers' accusations. He was anxious and panicked, and tears welled up in his eyes. He choked out to the village chief, "Grandpa Village Chief, Madam Zhan is really a good person. She wouldn't harm Yan'er. Please wait a little longer and give her some more time, okay?"
The village chief ignored him, his eyes growing increasingly sinister: "Are you waiting for her to kill Yan'er completely? A-Yuan, you're too young, you've been fooled by these outsiders! Look at Yan'er, she's almost out of breath, all because of this woman! If Yan'er doesn't survive today, they must pay for it with their lives!"
With that, the village chief waved to the villagers behind him: "Everyone, get to work and catch these wicked people! Don't let them get away! Once Yan'er has breathed her last, we'll tie them up and drown them in the pond to avenge Yan'er!"
The villagers were already suspicious of Lin Yiwan and her group, and now, encouraged by the village chief, they immediately swarmed forward and surrounded Lin Yiwan and Xie Jianshu.
Xie Jianshu's eyes narrowed, and he immediately shielded Lin Yiwan behind him, saying in a deep voice to the villagers rushing forward, "Anyone who dares to touch her will be let down! Our lady is saving lives. If you delay treatment, can you bear the consequences?"
But the villagers were already blinded by anger and wouldn't listen to Xie Jianshu's words.
A villager grabbed a wooden stick from the corner of the wall and swung it at Xie Jianshu, shouting, "Don't waste your breath on them, arrest them first! They killed someone and still dare to act so arrogantly!"
