Chapter 199 Mission 2: The Secret of the Terror Ship
Chapter 199 Mission 2: The Secret of the Terror Ship
The secret of the Terror Ship?
The players looked at each other, bewildered, as they stared at the new quest given to them by the system.
The instance still hasn't provided a way to leave, and it's unclear whether you can leave after completing the quest or if you have to wait until they capture the whale.
However, the player's death still cast a shadow over the remaining players' hearts.
Although it's said that you won't be possessed by evil spirits when you're asleep, no one can guarantee that the ship won't encounter other problems later.
The discovery of the sun god pendant on the bed of the deceased player made the remaining players even more doubtful: could the sun god really protect them?
The old crew members stared blankly at the players and Scarface being thrown into the Sea of Evil Spirits. Some even yawned wearily, as if they were used to it and didn't even mourn.
To ward off the bitter cold, everyone was bundled up tightly. Corren probably noticed the two distinct groups of crew members on deck, and finally waved his hand, "Go back first."
"The evil spirits will come again."
Back in the relatively warm cabin, everyone sat down at the familiar dining table.
"Something feels off," the players whispered among themselves. "The timing of this quest 2 is a bit strange."
Why is it that the heretics and players only received the new quest prompts after being abandoned on the Terror Ship?
"Maybe the tasks are distributed one by one." The bearded man was a little impatient. He had already received the completion notification for Task 1... He thought to himself that it was good that he asked one more question, otherwise he would have missed the task reward.
Gao Wen sat next to Yan Xun this time and nudged Yan Xun's arm, saying, "I feel something's not right."
He was just there too.
“When Corren spoke, he was already implying to us that he heard something unusual last night, which is why he opened his eyes,” Gao Wen analyzed. “But Corren also said that the heretics would secretly destroy the amulet on the bow of the ship after everyone is asleep in the middle of the night.”
Yan Xun understood what he meant. Ke Lun couldn't possibly be unaware that the dead player had chosen to open his eyes because he heard his roommate leaving at night.
But he didn't say it.
Instead, one of the players said it.
"Have you discovered anything while you were living with Coron?" Gawain asked.
Yan Xun shook his head. "We don't spend much time in the cabin." Only a short period after returning to the cabin at night, "He answered my question about the portrait yesterday."
"They said he was the captain's patron."
Gao Wen's eyes lit up. "My roommate said the same thing to me."
“It must be because we went into the cabin that triggered the NPC’s subsequent dialogue.” Yan Xun shared his thoughts from last night with Gao Wen. “Even if it’s a hidden quest, they wouldn’t use text that only a few people can decipher as a trigger.”
"The correct way is that when we are cleaning the captain's cabin, we become interested in the portrait and ask the old crew members. They will provide relevant clues, such as that the man is the captain's benefactor and ordered the captain to secretly find the elixir of immortality for him."
Yan Xun thought about it and felt that one of the secrets of the Terror Ship was that the captain was a pirate and that the whaling ship had another purpose for going to sea.
He hadn't thought of any other secrets yet.
“The Whale Whisperer said we’re in danger, most likely because of the Blue Gold mission,” Yan Xun added.
Gu Jia stayed by Yan Xun's side the whole time and heard their conversation very clearly.
“I can give it a try,” Gu Jia suddenly said. “Let’s determine the basis for the crew’s information disclosure. Is it from entering the captain’s cabin, or from hearing about the portrait?”
Yan Xun understood what he meant.
Those who know about the portrait are all people who have been inside the captain's cabin.
Gu Jia just wanted to try and see if entering the captain's cabin would trigger a hidden dialogue condition, or if knowing the portrait was enough to trigger the NPC's dialogue.
"I'll ask one of the crew members later," Gu Jia said.
Gao Wen looked at Gu Jia, then at Yan Xun, "Did you two enter the dungeon together?" He scratched his head. He remembered that the shop had items that could bind people to enter the dungeon together—usually used by large guilds to complete tasks together, or by couples.
“No,” Yan Xun said. “It’s a coincidence.”
"Oh..." Gao Wen nodded, thinking to himself, then Qin Ke does have a chance.
When he thought of Qin Ke, he was about to check where his brother had gone when he saw Qin Ke sitting next to Wen Yuanzheng.
Gao Wen: ...? Bro, what's wrong with you?
Yan Xun looked at Gao Wen with a puzzled expression, sighed at Qin Ke and Wen Yuanzheng, and then shook his head at himself.
"He was just momentarily out of his mind."
Gao Wen patted Yan Xun on the shoulder, "Don't worry, I will definitely support you."
Yan Xun: ...?
"Thank you?" He didn't understand what Gao Wen was talking about, but looking at Qin Ke and Wen Yuanzheng over there, he judged, "Is Qin Ke trying to test Wen Yuanzheng to see how he recognizes those characters?"
"Oh! Right!" Gao Wen was enlightened by Yan Xun and realized that it seemed to make sense.
Since yesterday, Qin Ke has been very concerned about the fact that Wen Yuanzheng also knows those characters.
"Could it be that only certain people can understand those characters?"
Yan Xun looked at the two people over there and said, "Perhaps."
He patted Gao Wen on the shoulder as he spoke, "I'll go find out some information."
He then left the table.
Once Yan Xun left, only Gao Wen and Gu Jia remained. Gu Jia wasn't talkative, and Gao Wen wasn't good at dealing with quiet people like her.
He poked at the bacon on his plate with his fork, somewhat awkwardly. "You two knew each other before?"
"Me?" Gu Jia didn't expect him to talk to him. He put down his knife and fork. "We met in the dungeon."
"A dungeon?" Gawain's interest was piqued. "What dungeon?"
Gu Jia thought for a moment and felt that there was nothing wrong with talking about it, so she simply said, "A movie instance called Wusheng Village."
"...Wusheng Village...?"
Gao Wen looked at Gu Jia with a complicated expression, "I've been to this instance before."
"It's really strange, but I didn't go to the movie copy."
"When I went there, the village in the instance was gone and had become a famous haunted place. In that instance, we played the roles of a group of live streamers who said they were going to explore there."
"After arriving at Wusheng Village, we saw the Cimu Hall."
Gu Jia guessed that they must have seen Yan Yu at the Cimu Hall. At the end of that movie, a group of people went on an adventure and saw Yan Yu carrying a lantern at the entrance of the Cimu Hall.
"But there's nothing in the Mother's Hall..."
As Gao Wen spoke, he touched his arm, as if he could still recall that eerie and terrifying feeling.
"No?"
"Ah."
"Inside there was only a huge statue of the Compassionate Mother Goddess, a dusty prayer mat, and an open wooden box."
"Oh, right, there's also an osmanthus tree in the yard."
Gao Wen said, "It wasn't the season for osmanthus to bloom, but the Cimu Hall was filled with the fragrance of osmanthus... and then we encountered a ghost."
This was a survival instance, and they finally managed to leave the instance after eliminating the ghostly villagers who roamed around at night.
As Gao Wen was speaking, he suddenly slapped his thigh as if he had just remembered something, "I remember now!"
“When we were hiding in the village, we went to an old Yan family house and found a marriage certificate in one of the rooms.”
"I knew the name Yan Xun sounded familiar," Gao Wen muttered. "One of the names on that marriage certificate is Yan Xun."
