Chapter 270 - 268: Broke the Skin
Chapter 270 - 268: Broke the Skin
In front of the mirror.
Mia Grant pulled down her collar, examining herself closely.
Her neck and chest were dotted with an alarming array of marks, evidence of what looked like a thoroughly satisfying battle.
But as the person involved, she had no memory of it at all.
"Ugh." Mia Grant pounded her head in frustration.
She dawdled in the bathroom before finally getting dressed.
When she came out, she moved awkwardly, wincing every few steps.
Hearing her footsteps, Kian Keller put down the file in his hands and looked up.
He noticed something was off and furrowed his brow slightly. He didn’t recall doing anything too excessive to her last night.
’Why is she walking so awkwardly after a night’s sleep?’
’Did she twist her ankle in the pool yesterday?’
Kian Keller thought about it. No, that couldn’t be it.
Last night, when he’d kissed her, she had put up a bit of a token resistance before growing tired, falling asleep on top of him, and leaving him to clean up the mess.
He had changed her into a nightgown and checked her over. She wasn’t injured.
"Are you feeling unwell somewhere? Aaron." Kian Keller gestured to the figure beside him.
The man nodded and picked up his phone, about to call for the family doctor.
"No, no, no." Mia Grant waved her hands frantically. "I’m just... a little hungry."
Aaron paused and looked at Kian Keller.
Kian studied her, their eyes meeting for a moment before he stood up and took her hand. "Let’s go get something to eat."
"Oh."
—
In front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, a waiter finished setting the table and quickly departed.
Mia Grant sat down and began to eat slowly with her knife and fork.
"Headache? You’ll definitely have one after drinking so much last night. If you’re uncomfortable, I can have someone give you a massage later."
He had tried to give her some sobering soup last night, but she had been in such a deep sleep that she didn’t drink much of it.
Mia Grant shook her head like a rattle, a clear sign that it didn’t hurt.
Puzzled, Kian Keller continued to question her.
Mia Grant stuffed a piece of steak into her mouth to block it, clearly unwilling to talk to him.
But her flushed cheeks betrayed her emotions.
Since she wouldn’t speak, Kian Keller put down his utensils and sat across from her, staring at her intently.
His gaze was too naked. Mia Grant completely lost her appetite. Being watched by him like this was like chewing wax; she couldn’t stomach another bite, no matter how delicious the food was.
Knowing what he wanted, Mia Grant braced herself and finally accused him, "It’s just... you, you did something to me last night, didn’t you."
Kian Keller’s eyes flickered. "In what way?"
"..."
’Looks like he did quite a lot of things last night.’
Mia Grant was speechless for a moment.
"Forget it."
’It’s just too embarrassing to say.’
Kian Keller’s gaze remained calm. As if remembering something, his eyes discreetly traveled down from her face, lingering for a few seconds on her carefully covered neck before dropping lower to her chest.
She was wearing a high-collared base-layer shirt today. It was probably the only thing in her suitcase that could hide her neck, so she wore it despite how uncomfortable it felt.
Although she was slim, she was well-proportioned, and the parts that weren’t supposed to be slim were indeed quite prominent.
The shirt clung tightly to her skin, outlining her waist and the curves of her chest.
Noticing his gaze, Mia Grant choked and shot him a fierce glare.
He seemed to snap out of a daze, slowly looking up at her eyes with an innocent expression as if nothing had happened. "What’s wrong?"
"..." Mia Grant took a deep breath and decided to just throw caution to the wind. "You... bit... too, too hard last night!"
"It’s... broken... the skin..."
Her voice grew smaller and smaller.
Until her head was nearly buried under the table.
Kian Keller seemed to finally realize the extent of his crime. He was silent for a long moment, then picked up the phone beside him, initially intending to message Aaron.
He paused, then scrolled through his notes for a long time before finding what looked like a doctor’s number and sending a text message.
A few minutes later, someone delivered a tube of ointment.
"Finish your food first. When you’re done, I’ll help you apply the ointment. Don’t wear that today. Just rest in the room."
"?" Mia Grant froze and looked up at him.
’Don’t wear that?’
’Don’t wear what?’
When she belatedly realized what he meant, Mia Grant’s cheeks flushed crimson. She looked at him, wanting to speak but holding back.
Kian Keller’s gaze wandered wantonly over her chest.
He only looked away when she raised a hand to cover herself, an act that only drew more attention to it.
"I wasn’t paying attention last night. I apologize to you, and I apologize to them."
"???"
Mia Grant shot to her feet. "You... you’re really..."
She wanted to curse him out, but seeing his overly calm and indifferent gaze, the swear words died on her lips.
If anyone else had said that, it would have been glib and deliberately provocative.
But coming from Kian Keller...
’He might actually be apologizing.’
Mia Grant deflated and plopped back down in her seat.
Kian Keller probably noticed her embarrassment. He thought for a moment, then added, "It won’t happen again."
"It won’t?" Mia Grant was skeptical.
"I won’t bite so hard."
"..."
’I knew it.’
After the meal, Mia Grant grabbed the ointment from the table and bolted for the bathroom, locking the door behind her to deny him any chance to "help."
Hearing footsteps, Mia Grant paused, her face flushing as she looked at the shadow cast on the door.
"Don’t come in!"
Kian Keller held up a key. "Can you manage on your own?"
"..."
When she didn’t answer, Kian Keller moved to unlock the door.
"I can! I can do it!"
Only then did he put the key aside.
He didn’t leave, though.
He just waited for her right outside the door.
This forced Mia Grant to glance outside every so often like a thief, terrified he would launch a surprise attack.
However, even though the shadow remained motionless, it was still incredibly imposing.
His presence was too strong, giving her a... very strange feeling.
After finally managing to apply the ointment, she pulled on a loose top, but feeling it wasn’t enough, she added a bathrobe over it.
In the mirror, the girl’s cheeks were as red as a boiled shrimp.
Mia Grant splashed her face with a handful of cold water and waited a while before opening the door and stepping out.
Across from the bathroom, Kian Keller was standing there quietly.
When he saw her come out, his gaze naturally drifted downward.
She immediately glared at him. "Don’t look!"
She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but she thought she saw the man give a faint smile.
A hint of amusement surfaced in his usually cold eyes.
He always wore a "poker face," making him look like a puppet.
The appearance of this smile added a lot of life to him.
Mia Grant was slightly taken aback. She slowly lowered her hand, finding him much more pleasant to look at now.
"Not angry anymore?"
Kian Keller was surprised to see her suddenly lower her guard.
He actually had no memory of whether he had bitten her hard or not last night, as he hadn’t had the chance to pay attention to it during the whole affair.
But seeing how uncomfortable she was, it must have really hurt.
Mia Grant pouted. "I wasn’t angry in the first place."
’Just... embarrassed, that’s all.’
In the past, when things got heated, Kian Keller would want to touch her there, but she stopped him every time.
She was extremely shy, so he never insisted.
But this time, it was like he’d collected everything with interest.
