The Nokia 9300 is horizontal clamshell with Symbian as the operating system. It’s a large phone of the standard candy bar design. The built is very well. It’s feel sturdy but not too heavy. When the 9300 open, it reveals a keyboard with 58 keys, eight program launch buttons, four input buttons, a 9-way joystick mouse and a brilliant 640×200 pixel display. The 9300 dimensions is 5.2″ x 2″ x 0.83″ with 5.89 ounces of weight. It’s not small or huge. It’s menageable. The Interior Display of 9300 is so fantastic. The color is pure and vivid with five brightness levels. It’s not touch sensitive display but works very well outside, even in direct sunlight. (more…)
The T-Mobile SDA is a PDA with reach features including quad-band GSM/EDGE, WiFi and a QVGA screen. It is a product of High Tech Computer of Taiwan. It’s also known as HTC Tornado. The keypad and buttons are comfortable to use and press. Except the top row of keys below the screen, which include the left & right softkeys, back, and home buttons that so small and more difficult to press. Under the battery, there are the phone’s miniSD slot on center and SIM card holder on right. The SDA build quality is excellent and comfortable.
HP iPaq hw6515 is a solid device. The thumb keyboard is easy to use and the 3 inch screen resolution is 240 x 240. There is a green phone button to enter the phone app and dial a number and red phone button to end a call. The thumbstick is a 4-way directional control with a click action to confirm your choices. On either side of a thumbstick there are a button for Contacts and one to access the Messaging application. There are replaceable lithium-ion battery, the camera lens, a light for the camera, and a nice little convex mirror for self pictures on the back of the phone. On the right side there are the stylus silo and the two slots for the SD card and mini-SD card and the left side is a spring-loaded slider switch to control the volume. And on the bottom there are the headphone / ear bud jack, reset pin, the jack to plug the device in for charging or syncing and a hole for the microphone.
The Palm Treo 700w doesn’t look that much different from the Treo 650. The design is one-handed operation that very comfortable. The style of the buttons is a little different, and the shape of the casing has been changed slightly, but otherwise the design is very similar. The buttons of the famous thumb keyboard remain similarly sized and well spaced. On the left side is keys of volume slider. Below are a single unmarked button. Maybe for push-to-talk or some similar function. The only function that it does have out of the box is to launch Windows Media Player if it press and hold. On top there are SD slot, IR port, and a simple switch that changes the Treo from ring to vibrate to silence quickly and easily.
The T-Mobile MDA has a more rounded organic styling, complete with a raised diamond pattern covering the back. The pattern does serve the important purpose of making the device feel good to hold. The MDA build quality is excellent with easy to stand up to the normal rigors of wear and tear. The bottom front panel only contains four buttons, two softkeys and two phone keys without two buttons for proper one-handed navigation, the Start and OK/Close buttons. The screen and keyboard are mounted on separate parts of the device. When slide the display to one side and reveal the keyboard, it’s automatically switches the system to landscape mode. The keyboard is back-lit for use in low light that seems much brighter than the Cingular version of the Wizard.
TORQ P120 is a a unique Windows Mobile 5 based smartphone. It’s a candybar shaped smartphone with no keyboard and attractive with a matte black color. And it’s small enough to fit in a pocket. The P120’s screen is 2.8 inch LCD with a resolution of 240×320 pixels. It’s very bright, clear and easy to see even with the backlight at half strength. The LED on the right shows charge status and status of the GSM/GPRS radio. The LED on the left of the screen flashes blue when the Bluetooth radio is enabled and flashes amber when the Wifi radio is turned on and with both radios on, the two colors are flashing.
