The Electrovaya Scribbler SC3100 Tablet PC is a compact and lightweight Tablet PC. It’s boasts a new BOE Hydis display with a 180 degree viewing angle and a faster processor. The design is innovative hints of ingenious engineering in the mobile space. It’s also a practical Tablet PC. The Scribbler SC3100 case is plastic that feels so solid. The hardware buttons are easy to press. Although the snap on keyboard and touchpad are very slim, they hold up just fine when used on a flat surface. The design is different like other Tablet PC. The touchpad snaps into a designated space behind the keboard keys and the thin keyboard doubles as a protective cover for the display. An innovative plastic stand is built into the keyboard to safely support the slate itself and is accompanied by two latches that grab onto the side to seat the display firmly in place.

The SC3100’s processor is Intel Pentium M CPU 1.6GHz with 2MB secondary cache. We test the SC3100 used Super Pi to calculate the number Pi to 2 Million digits. The results shows that The Scribbler SC3100 with 1.6GHz Alviso LV Pentium M needs 118 seconds, The Toshiba R15 Tablet PC with 1.6GHz Dothan PM needs 128 seconds, and HP tc4200 with 1.73GHz Alviso PM needs only 111 seconds.

The Scribbler SC3100’s operating system is Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005. It’s also come with some software like Corel Grafigo, FarstoneVirtual Drive, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Softex OmniPass Security Software, a trial version of Franklin Covey Tablet Planner, Alias Sketchbook (trial) and Windows Journal.

The SC3100’s display is a new BOE Hydis which offers a 180 degree viewing angle. The 1024×760 resolution is adequate for the 12.1″ display size. The screen brightness is about 85% of what on the Acer convertible Tablet PC’s. The highest brightness setting seems just perfect for most any indoor lighting situation. The electromagnetic screen is very responsive to the pen and the sensitivity is balanced across the entire writing surface. The backlight illuminates the display evenly and the color saturation is excellent.The texture on these displays provides the user with a better writing experience.

The super thin keyboard is a pleasure to use although it make a clicky sound. It’s a solid and reponsive keyboard. The snap-in touchpad is basic with two mouse buttons. The pen requires no batteries and is comfortable in hand. The SC3100 also has dual array mic’s on the front of the slate body. Speech recognition works great with this mic system.
The Scribbler SC3100’s speakers are good as it gets for those typically integrated into Tablet PC’s. The volume is good with a clear and crisp quality.

The SC3100 includes a biometric fingerprint reader which no swiping involved to use this reader. Put enrolled finger on the reader surface and it reads quickly and accurately. This extra feature provides the owner with a extra confidence in protection of sensitive data.
The SC3100 also includes a built-in Intel Pro Wireless A/B/G mini pci card which the reception is good there;s no drops while connected to wireless routers and hot spots. But it have no integrated Bluetooth.

The SC3100’s battery is 75 watt hour lithium ion SuperPolymer which With the Wi-Fi turned on, the hard drive constantly reading and the CPU busy making calculations, it through 3 hours and 24 minutes. Charging the battery while computer in use is very slow and time comsuming. Charge over night is highly recommended.

The Electrovay Scribbler SC3100 Tablet PC is a good choice for users or mobile professionals. The battery is very slow to charge while computer is powered on and no integrated Bluetooth radio. But the build quality and design is innovative and sturdy. The keyboard and trackpad is very good and it have a amazing biometric fingerprint scanner. The Scribbler SC3100 is an excellent choice for who need a sturdy and well-equipped Tblet PC.
