The Satellite M55 come with Windows XP. The laptop also came with programs to sign up for AOL, MSN, Napster and every other program or service you can think of. Toshiba also provides a recovery CD but not the original Windows disks. To get a benchmark of processor speed, i use Super Pi. Super Pi program simply forces the processor to calculate Pi to a selected number of digits of accuracy. Calculating to 2 million digits is my benchmark. The M55 needs 1 minute 59 seconds to Calculate Pi to 2 Million Digits. IBM ThinkPad T43 1 minute 45 seconds, Toshiba Satellite M60 1 minute 38 seconds, IBM ThinkPad T41 2 minutes 23 seconds and Dell Inspiron 8600 2 minutes 28 seconds.
The TruBright screen on the M55 is glare-type screen and it is beautiful. The maximum resolution of the screen is 1280×768. There is no dead pixels under normal usage. The M55 uses the integrated Intel GMA 900 graphics card with up to 128 MB of shared video RAM.

The speakers on this laptop is stand out. The speakers sit directly below the screen and not dissapoint. The sound quality is good with ample volume. But for more outstanding sound you will still need external speakers. The M55’s keyboard and touchpad is not good enough. its dissapoint. When typing, the amount of flex exhibited by the keyboard resulted in uncomfortable typing and more importantly a large amount of noise. The touchpad is a bit undersize compare to much. The button is too small. In general use. its frustating to perform even the simplest tasks like moving to an icon on the desktop.

The Toshiba M55’s battery is 6-cell lithium ion battery. The battery life is good and it keeps the overal weight of the laptop down. It is a good comparize. Toshiba states the battery life is up to 3.52 hours. The laptop have the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 b/g wireless integrated, but no bluetooth. The integrated wirelesswill pick up your home wireless network instantly and easily with no configuration needed. The ports of M55 are microphone and headphone jack, a PCMCIA Type II slot, multi-card reader, S-video, i-Link and 2 USB ports.

The Toshiba Satellite M55 is light-weight with nice compact size, have a great screen and runs cool for small laptop. The plastic contructions is not good enough, and the keyboard and the touchpad button extremly bad. The laptop is offering everyhing you’ll looking for in a laptop. Its have a large hard drive, great screen, integrated wireless, cool temperatures and DVD burner. Poor construction shows up in numerous parts of the laptop, but none more noticeable than the keyboard. But this is a nice thin and light of a laptop.
